2024 MOOD
Hello, Happy New Year!
Welcome back for a new year of newsletters, and if you’re new here, so happy you’re here. We are turning things around for the start of the new year and discovering and trying new things!
If you need an extra push to start something you’ve been wanting to do for awhile, I’m here to reiterate something I heard the other day that I agree with - you can’t get what you want without being cringey! Email that company, post your videos, approach that person that makes you nervous, start something new. Another thing I saw online is to stop living like someone else’s idea of an adult. You’re allowed to have fun, enjoy the things younger you used to love. And every time we feel concerned others are judging us, here’s another friendly reminder I think is gold:

Something new I discovered this week is Kelly Wearstler’s Masterclass! Her Masterclass is on interior design; Kelly has probably designed the interiors of a large variety of the pins I have on Pinterest without me even knowing it. She makes some beautiful spaces. She was also featured on Jay Shetty’s podcast ‘On Purpose’ (you all know we are a fan here). I think her masterclass had some fun, unique tips. She makes interior design approachable and applicable to many other areas of design and creativity. I am in my interior design era currently trying to plan as much as I can for the schoolhouse renovation so that nothing is rushed, so I was very inspired.
The other ‘new’ thing I acquired this week is Ramit Sethi’s book ‘I Will Teach You To Be Rich’. I decided I am taking my money into my own hands and learning more about smart money moves instead of having my older brother explain it to me practically every quarter. Wish me luck! I hear it’s a good book, so I will report back.
2014
I know in the beginning I said we were leaning into newness, however, there’s a bit of something else in the air lately, which I’ve been discussing with a friend of mine. 2014-2015 energy is back for 2024. Last week I mentioned ‘Lush Life’ by Zara Larsson is my new go to for the year, and now it seems like everyone is on the same page. Even Ellie Goulding performed for New Years Eve (very 2010s), and we haven’t seen much of her in the last few years. Bring back the valencia Instagram filter! I think it is stemming from everyone wanting to make social media casual again and feeling burnt out with the same influencers so the same thing. I am fully leaning in, and I am curious to see how it will play out.
Q&A
I am by means no expert in graphic design, but I posted a TikTok as a way to try and help other women and share my two cents when it comes to corporate jobs/design/portfolios/etc! I answer quite a few DMs about this topic, so I think it’s helpful to have this information in one place for others to refer to. Hoping it helps at least one person get to where they want to be!
DOWN THE HATCH
I will be making this carrot salad and eating it all week! It is one of my favorite salads, and brightens things up in the middle of winter.
